Under the vibrant murals of Kampala’s Mlisada Orphanage, the air buzzed with excitement as Ushindi’s team arrived with a special surprise for 120 street-connected children:
· 🍚 Steaming mountain of rice (enough for 3 servings each)
🍗 Protein-packed meat stew (first meat many had eaten in months)
🍦 Vanilla ice cream ("I’ve only seen this in ads!" gasped 9-year-old Peter)
The Faces Behind the Meal
· Abandoned Brian, 5, who survives by scavenging leftovers from taxi parks
· Teen mom Sharon, 14, raising her baby in the orphanage after fleeing abuse
· Dancing Joseph, a double-orphan whose hip-hop moves hide his hunger
Beyond the Plate: Lasting Change
1️⃣ Enrolled 18 kids in our Street-to-School Program (uniforms + tutors provided)
2️⃣ Trained caregivers on nutrition for malnourished children
3️⃣ Launched "Sweet Dreams" Fund for mattresses to replace dirt floors
Why Ice Cream Matters
"For one afternoon, they weren’t ‘street kids’—just children giggling over melting cones."

Cost of Hope
- $5 = A child’s feast day (rice + meat + dessert)
- $30 = Week of meals + trauma counseling
- $100 = School kit for a former street child
